Through funding provided by the Ford Foundation, Jarvis Christian College is working to properly identify and catalog African American Women in Academia. This proposal, a two-year grant, is to conduct research on women in the academy from 1901-2001 through extensive survey research, initiating new survey research and conducting two types of interactive activities which will provide linkages to the needed production of future African American women to serve in academia in the new millennium. The project addresses Ford Foundation's major area of interest - women, minorities, and higher education. Further, it will identify factors that enhance, influence, and inhibit the participation, quality of academic and professional life, retention and achievement of African American women in the Academy in empowered positions and will provide analyses of the role and impact of symbolic interaction based on race and gender. The research project is facilitated by an InstitutionalQuestionnaire. Participants are asked to download the questionnaire, complete, and email to the Project Director, Dr. Gloria Scott. All information is strictly confidential and will be used for research purposes only. Institutional information will be coded in such a way to protect the identity of the participating institution and any individuals that complete the accompanying Interactive Dialogue sheet. Letter from the Project Director Completed forms and/or questions can be directed to:
