CIRCULATION POLICY

Olin Learning Resource Center (OLCR) Circulation Policy governs the use of library and media materials.

It is the responsibility of the borrower to maintain current name, address, and telephone number with the College (Office of the Registrar) and Olin Learning Resource Center. Please check with library personnel at the circulation desk to update this information with the Olin Learning Resource Center.

  • JCC Students: Current, validated JCC student identification card with valid library barcode.
  • Community Borrowers: Special programs and nontraditional students verification; temporary JCC personnel verification information, and reciprocal agreement borrowers.

CIRCULATING MATERIALS:
Up to 5 items (e.g. books) can be checked out by a patron at any given time. Media materials are limited to a total of 3 items (e.g. videos).

NON-CIRCULATING MATERIALS:
Materials from the following collections cannot be checked out:

  • Microforms
  • Microfilm
  • Reference
  • Periodicals
  • Special Collections
  • Archival Material

CIRCULATION PERIODS:
Materials in the general collection may circulate for fourteen (14) days or two (2) weeks.

PERIODICALS CIRCULATION:

Periodicals do not circulate.

OVERDUE NOTICES:
It is the responsibility of the patron to return materials on or before the due date. The stamping of the due date on each item and/or checkout receipt given at the time of checkout constitutes formal notification of due date. Overdue notices are not provided.

RENEWALS:
If there is not a hold or recall on the material, one (1) renewal for an additional two (2) weeks will be allowed. To be renewed, both the item and borrower identification must be presented in person by the borrower. Renewals must be made before the due date.

HOLDS:
Patrons may place materials on hold to be checked out at a later time. Hold materials will be held up to 24 hours. Hold requests must be made in person at the circulation desk.

RECALLS:
All materials checked out from the OLRC are subject to recall. Due dates for recalled materials will be revised as followed:

  • Materials to be placed on reserve for class assignments are subject to immediate recall.
  • All library materials for which hold requests have been made are subject to recall after 14 days of circulation regardless of the original due date and category of the borrower.

Unreturned recalled materials are subject to late fines, based upon the revised due date. Failure to comply with requests for recalled materials will result in suspension of borrowing privileges.

RETURNS:
Library materials may be returned at the circulation desk or in book drops located under the circulation desk and outside of the Library's main entrance. Media materials may only be returned at the circulation desk. Do not place media materials (e.g. audio-visual material/videos) in the library book drop.

FINES & FEES:
Overdue fines - All patron categories, including JCC faculty and staff, are subject to fines for items returned after the date due. Fines are calculated at twenty-five cents ($.25) per day, per item, for each day the library is open.

Fines for recalled materials are calculated at $1.00 per day, per item, for each day the library is open.

DELINQUENCY:
When items are kept beyond the date due, the patron's account will be flagged as stopped. Delinquent patrons will not be allowed to check out additional materials until items are returned and all fines are paid.
