The major units in the Division of Education are: Degree programs in Teacher Certification may be pursued in the following teaching fields:
A teaching program in early childhood through grade four is comprised of forty-nine (49) semester hours of general education coursework; twenty four (24) semester hours of professional development courses, including student teaching; thirty (30) semester hours of academic specialization coursework, and twenty-seven (27) semester hours of other coursework. A teaching program in middle school education is comprised of forty-five (45) semester hours of general education coursework; one teaching field comprised of a minimum of twenty-seven (27) semester hours; twenty-four (24) semester hours of professional development courses, including student teaching, and forty-four (44) semester hours of other coursework. A teaching program in high school is comprised of forty-eight (48) semester hours of general education coursework; from twenty-seven (27) to thirty-two (32) semester hours of academic specialization coursework (dependent on the major); twenty-four (24) semester hours of professional development courses including student teaching, and thirty-one (31) semester hours of other coursework.
______________________________________________________________________ The State Board for Educator Certification of the State of Texas establishes policies that govern all certification programs. These policies are subject to changes made by the State Board for Educator Certification. The College's objective is to adjust policies, procedures, and programs related to certification in a timely manner. In cases where revisions are not completed before the catalog publication date, revisions are published in an addendum, which becomes an official part of the newly published catalog. The Jarvis Teacher Education Council and the Advisory Board are the two program developmental bodies within the Division of Education. They are responsible for the oversight of policy development and practices that guide the planning, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of the Teacher Education Program.
