Athletic Director/Head Women's Basketball Coach

Elissia Burwell is a native of Dallas, Texas and a graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Mrs. Burwell began her coaching career in 1989-1993 here at Jarvis Christian College. She returned as coach in 1994 and became the Athletic Director in 2000.
During her career, Mrs. Burwell has received many awards and they are as follows: 1998-1999 RRAC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year and RRAC Women’s Basketball RRAC Conference Champions; 1999-2000 RRAC Coach of the Year and RRAC Women’s Basketball Conference Champions; 1999-2000 Sears Collegiate Champions; 2000-2001 RRAC Coach of the Year and lead the Women’s Basketball to the NAIA National Tournament in Jackson, Tennessee. |
| In May 2000, AD Burwell received the Texas Association of Developing Colleges for Outstanding Performance as an Athletic Director. Also, while under her direction the athletic programs earned recognition in 1999 Red River Athletic Conference Highest GPA Award; 2005-2006 Red River Athletic Conference Academic Award: For the highest overall grade point average in the conference by an athletic program; 1999 Red River Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award; 2005-2006 Red River Athletic Conference the Women’s Program at Jarvis Christian College received the Sportsmanship Award and 2005-2006 NAIA Athletic Director of the Year Award in Region VI. |
| Mrs. Burwell has also received many more awards outside of coaching. As an instructor, she has received numerous awards from the student body as well as the faculty and staff during special events. She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. |
| She is married to Donnell and has two lovely sons; Elijah and Noah Burwell. |
