Jarvis Christian College’s Statement Regarding the Actions by the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
HAWKINS (February 2, 2012) – The Board of Trustees and the Administration of Jarvis Christian College announce plans to take proactive measures to address all areas cited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) on December 5, 2011 that placed the College on warning for a six-month period. During this time the institution remains fully accredited.
As summarized in the statement issued by SACS, the College was placed on warning for failure to appropriately document financial stability and implement a plan to assess institutional effectiveness of its educational programs. The College is currently undergoing a financial audit, which, when completed and released, will provide indicators of the overall financial health of the College. Additionally, the College will move expeditiously to document its institutional effectiveness process and provide evidence of improvement in the quality of its educational programs.
The SACS warning does not affect the accreditation of Jarvis Christian College. Moreover, the institution’s excellent academic programs remain eligible for federal funding and state grants. Accordingly, the Jarvis Christian College family is staunchly committed to preserving the reputation and educational vitality of the College. To that end, in the coming weeks the Board of Trustees will announce future plans for the leadership of the College following completion of the search for a new president. Under strong and vibrant new leadership, the College will continue the tradition of providing its students with high quality academic and student support programs.
Updates to the status of Jarvis Christian College will be posted on the institution’s website.
