Nature Trail a reality, standing in front of the Artesian Well.
Jarvis Christian College officially opened its new Nature Trail. The trail was constructed with funds from a Trail Grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and contributions from a number of donors. The ceremony took place at the pavilion/outdoor classroom, which is immediately adjacent to the north side of the Meyer Science and Mathematics Building. The Grand Opening took place at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 25, 2011.
The nearly 2-mile trail passes through and around natural wetlands found in the northeastern corner of the Jarvis property. The trail includes an elevated boardwalk, which exceeds 1,500 feet in length. The plant and animal diversity of the trail area is still being studied, but at least 20 species of non-flying mammals, of squirrel size or larger, are known to be present, and more than 40 species of trees have been identified within 15 feet of the trail corridor. Although the usage hours have not been determined, the trail is now open to the public. |
