An Introduction to the Major
In support of the mission of the College and the Division of Arts and Sciences, the Area of Social Science provides opportunities for students to understand the dynamics of social, political, and religious institutions while discovering and understanding major forces shaping the contemporary world. In addition, this area equips students to analyze and to utilize the principles and techniques for understanding group behavior and for undertaking sociological, psychological, and political research and training.

The area, in cooperation with the Division of Education, offers a major and minor for students preparing to teach history in the Texas public schools.

The Area of Social Science contributes to the Division of Arts and Sciences through:
1. Offering major programs in history for the Bachelor of Arts degree, criminal justice, history, and sociology for the Bachelor of Science degree.
