Jarvis Christian University Welcomes Alumnus Curtis R. Govan Jr., II, as Assistant Professor of Kinesiology
HAWKINS, Texas — Jarvis Christian University is proud to welcome Professor Curtis R. Govan Jr., II, M.EdKN, to its faculty as Assistant Professor of Kinesiology, bringing home a distinguished alumnus whose commitment to education, leadership, and student success reflects the University’s mission of educating the head, heart, and hand.
Professor Govan returns to Jarvis with experience spanning both higher education and K–12 education, where he has demonstrated a passion for teaching, curriculum development, and creating student-centered learning environments. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to helping students discover their potential, pursue academic excellence, and connect their educational experiences to meaningful careers and lifelong success.
A proud graduate of Jarvis Christian University, Professor Govan earned his bachelor’s degree before completing a Master of Education in Kinesiology at Dallas Baptist University. His academic preparation, combined with practical teaching experience, positions him to make an immediate impact on students preparing for careers in kinesiology, health, fitness, education, and related fields.
Professor Govan’s connection to Jarvis extends well beyond the classroom. As a student, he served as Student Government Association President during the 2020–2021 academic year, providing leadership during one of the most challenging periods in higher education. He also served as the student representative on the Jarvis Christian University Board of Trustees, advocating for the interests of the student body and helping ensure that student voices remained part of the University’s decision-making process.
His return to campus as a faculty member marks a meaningful full-circle journey—from student leader to educator—allowing him to invest in the next generation of Bulldogs while giving back to the institution that played a significant role in shaping his own personal and professional development.
Reflecting on his return, Professor Govan shared the significance of this new chapter.
“Returning to Jarvis as a professor is more than a professional accomplishment; it is deeply personal. I once walked this campus as a student with dreams for my future, and now I have the privilege of helping students discover what is possible for theirs. I am returning to pour into the institution that poured into me, to challenge students to pursue excellence, and to remind them that where they begin does not determine where they can go. For me, this is more than a position. It is purpose, legacy, and an opportunity to help prepare the next generation.”
