From the Office of the President
On last evening, October 22, just before midnight, a car chase ensued between the sheriff’s deputies of Wood County and a stolen vehicle. The driver and occupants of the stolen vehicle stopped in front of our campus, fled from the car, and jumped the fence toward campus with sheriff deputies in pursuit.
Upon knowledge of this incident, residence halls were secured, security officers dispatched, students were made aware that they were to shelter in place, and all empty buildings were checked and secured.
Law enforcement continued to seek the assailants; additional security officers reported to campus; and Texas Highway Patrol stayed on campus to provide additional security.
We continue to be vigilant in the safety of our students and everyone on campus. It is believed that the assailants fled from campus through the wooded area. All entrances to campus were and are secured. Most importantly, our students remain safe.
