Welcome to the Social Work Program
Who We Are?
Jarvis Christian University’s (JCU) Social Work Program was accredited in 2019 by the Council of Social Work Education and offered a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree.  That qualifies students to seek employment in social work practice, enroll in Master of Social Work programs, and pursue licensure in social work in states requiring licensure and social work regulation boards.  The Bachelor of Social work degree prepares students to become competent generalist social workers.
What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a system for recognizing educational institutions and professional programs affiliated with those institutions as having a level of performance, integrity, and quality that entitles them to the confidence of the educational community and the public they serve. The Commission on Accreditation (COA) of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Authority to accredit baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in social work education in the United States and its territories. The COA is responsible for formulating, promulgating, and implementing the accreditation standards for baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in social work, for ensuring the standards define competent preparation, and for confirming that accredited social work programs meet the standards. To this end, CSWE’s COA administers a multistep accreditation process that involves program self-studies and benchmarks, site visits, and COA reviews.
Employment Opportunities
Social workers’ career paths are broad, with about 78,300 openings for social workers projected each year between 2020-2030 (Department of Labor Statistics, 2022).  Students are prepared to seek employment in working with vulnerable populations in adolescence services, families and children services, mental health, healthcare, substance abuse, schools, community organizations, HIV-AIDs services, aging programs, criminal justice systems, and economic services.
Graduate School Advantage
The social work program is accredited by CSWE, qualifying a student for a master’s level graduate program in social work of two years or less.  The student who meets the criteria for an advanced standing graduate program can complete a program in one year or less.Â
Become A Licensed Social Worker
JCU qualifies students to pursue licensure in social work practice. Â The program encourages students to take the license examination upon graduation with the degree. Â Every state varies in the licensing regulation process for the social work profession. Â Once a student becomes licensed as a social worker, they will hold a credential of an LBSW.
Social Work Student Association (SWSA)
SWSA is open to all social work majors. Students regulate and plan social work-related activities to promote the profession in bringing awareness or addressing social issues of vulnerable populations. In celebration of Social Work Month (March), SWSA host several events such as collecting items for the food pantry, sponsoring a child abuse awareness day, and participating in a professional organization workshop in the local community.
Phi Alpha Honor Society- Delta Lota Sigma Chapter
Jarvis Christian University Social Work Program recognizes scholarship in academic achievement. Students are eligible to become members of the Phi Alpha Honor Society- Delta Lota Sigma Chapter, earning a 3.0 GPA and above in social work courses and completing 18 credit hours.  New intake for membership into the honor society is conducted once per academic year.
