Jarvis Christian University to Host Black History Chapel Featuring Bishop Ronnie E. Brailsford, Sr.

Jarvis Christian University will host its annual Black History Chapel on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Smith-Howard Chapel on the University’s campus. The chapel service will serve as a sacred space for reflection, remembrance, and recommitment during Black History Month, highlighting the enduring intersection of faith, leadership, and Black history.

The University is honored to welcome The Rt. Rev. Ronnie E. Brailsford, Sr., Presiding Prelate of the Tenth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, as the guest speaker for this special occasion. Bishop Brailsford is a respected spiritual leader whose ministry spans decades of pastoral service, episcopal leadership, and advocacy for justice, education, and community empowerment within the AME Church and beyond.

Black History Chapel is a longstanding tradition at Jarvis Christian University, affirming the institution’s Christian mission and its historic role in educating leaders committed to service, faith, and social responsibility. The chapel gathering provides an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and community members to reflect on the contributions of African Americans to the church, the academy, and society, while drawing inspiration for continued leadership and engagement.

“Black History Chapel invites us to remember that our faith story and our history are deeply connected,” said university leadership. “We are grateful for Bishop Brailsford’s willingness to share a word that will encourage our students and community as we honor the legacy of those who paved the way before us.”

The program will feature worship, reflection, and a message centered on faith-informed leadership and the responsibility of present and future generations to uphold principles of justice, integrity, and service. As an institution founded by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Jarvis Christian University continues to celebrate its roots while preparing students to lead in a complex and changing world.

Black History Month observances at Jarvis Christian University are designed to engage the campus community in meaningful dialogue and spiritual formation, reinforcing the University’s commitment to educating the head, heart, and hand. The Black History Chapel stands as both a moment of celebration and a call to action—inviting participants to honor the past while shaping a future grounded in faith and purpose.

The chapel service is open to the campus and surrounding community. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating.
