Jarvis Christian University and its fellow ICUT member institutions in East Texas are driving significant economic activity in the region, with a total impact of $411 million, as reported in the 2024 ICUT Economic Impact Report.
Of this, $273 million comes from direct spending, including university operations, student and employee expenditures, and visitor contributions. An additional $131 million in indirect and induced spending stems from the increased demand placed on local businesses and services.
Institutions in East Texas spent $76 million on purchasing, while students and employees spent $101 million and $69 million respectively. Visitor spending reached $10 million, and capital expenditures totaled $17 million, creating jobs and stimulating growth in construction and related industries.
With 2,910 jobs supported across East Texas, the higher education sector is firmly embedded in the regional economy. Alumni also contribute: 74% of graduates stayed in Texas, and 14% remained in the region, generating $42 million in ongoing economic impact, plus another $7 million through increased economic activity.
