Jarvis Christian University is proud to announce that TeeJ Mercer—philanthropist, author, media veteran, and founder of the nationally celebrated Move-In Day Mafia—will serve as the keynote speaker for the university’s 2025 Commencement Exercises. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. on the historic main campus in Hawkins, Texas.
Known for her infectious energy, compelling storytelling, and unwavering commitment to service, TeeJ Mercer is an inspiring figure whose work has impacted thousands of lives across the country. As the founder of the Move-In Day Mafia, a national nonprofit organization of volunteers who help first-generation students—many of whom are attending HBCUs—move into their college dorms, Mercer has made it her mission to support, uplift, and champion students from underserved communities. What began as a small act of kindness has grown into a movement that spans across the United States, partnering with institutions and mobilizing volunteers to ensure students feel seen, celebrated, and supported as they begin their academic journeys.
“We are thrilled to welcome TeeJ Mercer to Jarvis Christian University as our 2025 Commencement speaker,” said Dr. Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt, President of the University. “Her passion for service, her deep love for students, and her dedication to purpose-driven leadership align with the values we hold dear at Jarvis. Her story is a powerful reminder that when we each do our part, we can spark real and lasting change in the world.”
Mercer’s career spans over two decades in the entertainment industry, including producing roles for NBC, CBS, ABC, MTV, and the hit show The Dr. Phil Show. She is also a bestselling author and CEO of the Media Mavericks Academy, where she trains entrepreneurs and thought leaders to amplify their message in the media. Yet it is her philanthropic heart and advocacy for students that have cemented her as a force of hope and encouragement.
During the 2025 Commencement ceremony, Mercer will address the graduating class, their families, and the broader Jarvis community, offering words of wisdom drawn from her own journey of perseverance, service, and purpose. Her message is expected to resonate deeply with graduates who are preparing to transition from campus life into careers and service around the world.
Jarvis Christian University’s 2025 Commencement marks another milestone in the institution’s 113-year legacy of empowering students through faith, knowledge, and service. The university looks forward to celebrating the achievements of this year’s graduates and is honored to have TeeJ Mercer join the celebration.
