Jarvis Christian University continues to make a meaningful difference in East Texas by serving as both an academic beacon and an economic engine. According to the 2024 Economic Impact Report released by the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT), Jarvis Christian University contributes a total of $39 million to the regional economy.
This total includes $31 million in direct spending by the institution, its employees, students, and visitors, and an additional $8 million in indirect and induced spending through business stimulation and job creation. These funds ripple through the local economy, boosting everything from housing and retail to food services and transportation.
"Jarvis Christian University’s economic impact reflects our mission to educate while building stronger communities," said Dominique I. Grate, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development. "Our campus is a vital contributor to the local economy, and our presence here is about more than education—it’s about transformation."
The university also supports 230 Texas jobs, with expenditures such as $11 million in university purchasing, $10 million in student spending, and $10 million in employee spending. Additionally, visitor spending totaled $318,000, while capital investments reached $383,000, strengthening the infrastructure of the Hawkins campus and creating jobs in the process.
Beyond current activity, Jarvis alumni continue to shape the state’s workforce. With 87% of graduates remaining in Texas, they generated $585,000 in economic output, with an additional $6,000 attributed to increased spending across the region.
As Jarvis Christian University celebrates its legacy and future, the data affirms that its reach extends far beyond the classroom, serving as a key player in the region’s economic and social well-being.
