As national Job Corps programs experience an unexpected pause, Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins, Texas, is stepping in to offer a lifeline to students whose educational and career goals have been disrupted. Committed to providing access, opportunity, and support, Jarvis is actively welcoming students impacted by the program pause and inviting them to continue their academic journey in a nurturing, faith-centered environment.

“Jarvis Christian University has a legacy of serving students who have faced barriers to education,” said Dr. Darrin Q. Rankin, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Retention. “As soon as we learned about the interruption to Job Corps programming, we knew we had both the capacity and the calling to help.”

Job Corps, a federal program aimed at providing education and vocational training to young people ages 16 to 24, has been instrumental in helping students gain skills, diplomas, and certifications for over half a century. The recent halt in many of its operations has left thousands of students in limbo. Jarvis Christian University is offering a path forward.

The University is now accepting applications from students who hold either a high school diploma or GED and who have been adversely impacted by the pause in Job Corps programs. These students are encouraged to contact the Office of Enrollment Management and Retention to learn more about admissions, financial aid, and student life at Jarvis.

“Our motto is ‘You Are Wanted Here,’ and we mean that,” said Ms. Ciera Ford, Director of Recruitment. “We’re ready to work with students to find a path that works for them, whether they want to pursue a degree, prepare for a career, or simply continue their education in a supportive setting.”

Jarvis Christian University offers a range of academic programs, student support services, and career readiness initiatives designed to help students succeed both in college and beyond. With a low student-to-faculty ratio and a caring campus community, Jarvis provides personalized guidance for students transitioning from non-traditional educational environments like Job Corps.

For students who are unsure of their next step, Jarvis offers more than just a place to learn—it offers a place to belong.

Interested students or family members can contact Dr. Darrin Rankin at drankin@jarvis.edu or 903-730-4890 ext. 2203, or Ms. Ciera Ford at cford@jarvis.edu for more information about the admissions process. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis, and staff are available to guide students through each step of enrollment.

As a faith-based HBCU, Jarvis Christian University remains committed to meeting the needs of students from all walks of life and helping them rise above life’s challenges with hope, resilience, and education. This outreach to Job Corps students is just the latest example of Jarvis living out its mission—serving students, transforming lives, and shaping leaders for tomorrow.
