Jarvis Christian University will feature two dynamic guest speakers during a two-day Religious Emphasis event Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 20-21 honoring Black preaching. The free events will be held in the Smith-Howard Chapel sanctuary and are open to the public.

Kicking off the event Tuesday at 11 a.m. will be the Rev. Dr. Danielle Brown, senior pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Plainfield, New Jersey. She is the first woman to serve as senior pastor since the church was founded in 1908.  A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Dr. Brown attended Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.She earned both a Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degree from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Her Doctor of Ministry degree is from Palmer Theological Seminary in St. David’s Pennsylvania, where she studied leadership and church renewal. She also co-mentors doctoral fellows at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and serves on the advisory board of the Women in Ministry Conference, Inc. convened by the Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Hale in Atlanta, Georgia.   

Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., the Rev. Eric Anthony Brown, senior pastor of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas will speak.  A skilled musician, Brown has served in music ministry for churches in the Dallas area, but his passion is connecting cultures and serving as an agent of spiritual transformation through empowering individuals to infect and influence their surroundings as leaders in Christ. Using theologically sound sermons with uplifting methods to equip, enrich, and empower people for life’s challenges, the Garland, Texas, native holds the Bachelor of Science Degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas. He seeks to further his education with a Master of Divinity degree in pastoral care.

On Wednesday, February 21, at 7 p.m., both pastors will preach during a powerful worship service.

The public is invited, and admission is free to all of the events. The JCU campus is located at U.S. Hwy 80 East at P.R. 7631 in Hawkins, Texas.
