Hawkins, TX — Jarvis Christian University is proud to celebrate the latest achievement of rising senior Cedric Abney, who has been accepted as a 2025–2026 Ambassador for the Black Student Leadership Network (BSLN) Fellowship, a prestigious program facilitated by the Children’s Defense Fund in Texas. Cedric’s selection represents yet another milestone in a remarkable collegiate journey marked by service, leadership, scholarship, and trailblazing achievement.
The Black Student Leadership Network Fellowship is a yearlong opportunity that develops young Black change agents across the state of Texas by providing them with professional development, mentorship, and advocacy training to advance social justice and equity in education and beyond. Cedric’s selection places him among an elite cohort of student leaders committed to driving systemic change in their communities.
In addition to this significant recognition, Cedric will also serve as the 2025–2026 Student Government Association President, continuing his commitment to representing and uplifting the student body through campus-wide initiatives. A visionary organizer, he also founded the Public Leadership Organization on the JCU campus—an initiative designed to engage students in civic education, voter mobilization, and public service.
Cedric’s achievements extend well beyond leadership titles. A standout in the classroom and the campus community, he is a proud member of the Zeta Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he contributes to service and mentorship initiatives. He is also actively involved in the Pre-Alumni Association, serving on both the Community Service and Fundraising Committees, helping bridge the gap between current students and alumni engagement.
Dedicated to both academic and professional excellence, Cedric was selected for a MENT-Fitness Internship, where he is currently shadowing physical therapists, chiropractors, and wellness practitioners—gaining firsthand insight into holistic health and wellness fields. His commitment to personal growth and exploration speaks to his well-rounded approach to leadership.
An accomplished student-athlete, Cedric made university history as the first wrestler to compete and secure a win for Jarvis Christian University, setting a high bar for the wrestling program’s future. His legacy on and off the mat is a testament to his discipline and determination.
During the 2023–2024 academic year, Cedric was also named a META Scholar, earning a $10,000 scholarship from the META Foundation for his academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.
“Cedric Abney exemplifies the spirit of Jarvis Christian University,” said Dr. Kishia James, Interim Vice President of Student Affairs. “He leads with purpose, serves with heart, and inspires all who know him.”
As he prepares to enter his final year at JCU, Cedric continues to model what it means to be a servant-leader in today’s world. With his growing list of accolades and unwavering commitment to justice and excellence, the future is undeniably bright for this emerging changemaker.
