Hawkins, TX – April 2025 — Jarvis Christian University proudly congratulates Rev. Dominique Grate, Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development, on earning his Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential—one of the most respected certifications in the philanthropic sector.
The CFRE designation signifies a high level of professional achievement, ethical practice, and fundraising expertise. With this certification, Rev. Grate joins a global community of fundraising professionals who have demonstrated mastery of the principles of charitable giving, donor engagement, and development strategy. His achievement reflects not only personal commitment but also the university’s growing emphasis on excellence in advancement and fundraising operations.
"Receiving the CFRE credential is a tremendous honor," said Rev. Grate. "It represents years of dedicated work in the field of institutional advancement and a deep belief in the power of philanthropy to transform lives. I’m grateful to serve at a university where giving and mission-driven leadership go hand in hand."
Rev. Grate has served in several advancement leadership roles over his career, and since stepping into the interim vice presidency at Jarvis Christian University, he has helped lead the institution through a period of strategic growth. He has launched the university’s first major gifts program, spearheaded new donor societies, developed a planned giving initiative, and laid the groundwork for an upcoming capital campaign. Under his leadership, institutional giving has increased by 40%, and donor engagement has expanded across key alumni and church constituencies.
The CFRE credential is awarded by CFRE International and requires candidates to demonstrate seven years or more of professional fundraising experience, complete continuing education requirements, and pass a rigorous written exam covering six core knowledge domains: current and prospective donor research, securing gifts, relationship building, volunteer involvement, leadership and management, and ethics, accountability, and professionalism.
"Dominique’s certification is a testament to his deep knowledge of the profession and his ongoing commitment to ethical, effective fundraising," said Dr. Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt, President of Jarvis Christian University. "We are proud of his leadership and look forward to the continued impact he will make as we strengthen the future of Jarvis together."
Rev. Grate's accomplishment also positions Jarvis Christian University among a distinguished group of HBCUs whose advancement leaders hold CFRE credentials, helping to elevate professional fundraising standards and credibility within historically Black institutions.
In addition to his work in development, Rev. Grate brings a strong background in pastoral leadership and faith-based community engagement, making him a passionate advocate for mission-driven philanthropy that empowers underserved students and communities.
As Jarvis Christian University prepares for new opportunities in donor engagement, alumni relations, and strategic giving, Rev. Grate’s CFRE certification signals a promising new chapter of growth and leadership in the Office of Institutional Advancement and Development.
