Jarvis Christian University to Host “Unity in the CommUnity” Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast
Jarvis Christian University will honor the life, legacy, and enduring vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its annual “Unity in the CommUnity” Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 17, at 8:30 a.m. The event will take place in the Smith-Howard Chapel Fellowship Hall and is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the broader community.
This year’s observance centers on Dr. King’s enduring message, “I Have a Dream,” calling the campus and community to reflect on unity, justice, faith, and collective responsibility. Through prayer, fellowship, and reflection, the Prayer Breakfast creates a sacred space for dialogue and recommitment to the values that Dr. King championed—love, service, equality, and hope.
The Prayer Breakfast will feature Rev. Demethrius T. Boyd, Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church, as the guest speaker. Rev. Boyd is widely respected for his pastoral leadership and prophetic voice, offering messages that challenge individuals and communities to live out their faith through action. His presence underscores the University’s commitment to connecting spiritual reflection with social responsibility.
At Jarvis Christian University, the Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast is more than a commemorative event—it is an expression of the institution’s mission and identity. As a historically Black university rooted in faith and service, JCU continues to affirm Dr. King’s belief that education, moral leadership, and community engagement are powerful tools for transformation. The theme “Unity in the CommUnity” reflects the University’s emphasis on collective progress and shared responsibility, reminding participants that unity is not passive, but intentional and active.
The Prayer Breakfast also serves as an opportunity for fellowship across generations and backgrounds. Students engage with faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders in meaningful conversation, strengthening relationships that extend beyond the campus. These moments of connection are central to the Jarvis Christian University experience, reinforcing the idea that leadership is cultivated not only in classrooms, but in community.
